Defend Yourself Against
School or College Disciplinary Hearings!
Massachusetts School
Expulsion / Suspension Hearing Lawyer
If you are faced with going in front of
a principal, superintendent, or school board to fight a
student's punishment, you can greatly benefit from having an experienced trial lawyer
plead your case. In cases where fighting/assault, or drug
possession in school may appear to require a mandatory expulsion
or suspension, it's quite possible that the appeals process may
present a much better opportunity to plead your case than you suspect.
My name is Elliot Savitz, and I am an experienced defense
attorney who has represented clients in school suspension and
expulsion hearings. I'm a former member school committee member
myself, so I understand what arguments are likely to be successful. My
philosophy is to present a picture of the totality of the
circumstances and the person, to convince a school board, principal or
guidance counselor that suspension or expulsion would not serve
anyone's best interests.
Schools and colleges have their own specific rules about what
offense or behavior may warrant a suspension or expulsion. However,
you are entitled to legal representation in an expulsion hearing
under Massachusetts
General Laws.
"Any student who is charged with a violation of either
paragraph (a) or (b) shall be notified in writing of an opportunity
for a hearing; provided, however, that the student may have
representation, along with the opportunity to present evidence and
witnesses at said hearing before the principal."
